NOTES ON SOME PLANTS: The ST. MARY’ THISTLE (Silybum marianum) is suitable in the prophylaxis and therapy of the liver pathologies from intoxication (toxins, alcohol), it is an hepatoprotective. The St. Mary’ thistle also contains other active principles as the flavonoids and the sterols, that favour the bilious and renal elimination of the toxic metabolites and reduces the deposit of the fats level of the liver parenchyma. Good cholagogue, depurative, tonic and stimulating of the digestion. Principal remedy like hepatoprotective intoxication from hepatotoxic substances. ARTICHOKE (Cynara scolymus) is one of the stimulator of the liver and bilious functions thanks to contained principles (caffeilchinic acid and flavonoids). It has digestive action and depurative. DANDELION (Taraxacum officinale) is cholecystocinetic, it activates the musculature of the gall bladder modifying the characteristics chemical-physics of the bile. Benefit as drain and depurative hepatorenal. RHUBARB (Rheum officinale) has properties cholagogues, laxatives and in small doses tonics and stomachics. CHICORY (Cichorium intybus) with the principles that contains, it stimulates the functions of the bowel, of the liver and of the kidneys, being strongly depurative and detoxifying. HOREHOUND (Marrubium vulgare) improves the function of the stomach. The diterpenic and depsydic fractions contained in ROSEMARY (Rosmarinus officinalis) along with rosmarinic acid, develop numerous activities like cholecystokinetic activity. At gastrointestinal level, it stimulates the digestive functions and the regularization of the activity of the bacterial flora. Useful in the dyspepsia with flatulence above all if connected with hepatobiliary stasis and digestive cephalea. PEPPERMINT (Mentha piperita) it contains flavonoids that has action spasmolytic and choleretic. From the plants as described above, we can get some TSA (Spagyric-Alchemic Tinctures) with extraction ratio of 1 to 5 (R.E. 1/5) if we follow the directions given by Solanimus in his book "ALCHIMIA and SPAGYRIA: admirabiles et inseparabiles Artes!", where some practical notions of Spagyria and Alchemy are well described.
